IT WAS a hectic time over the Christmas period at Bridlington Golf Club both on and off the course.
The annual carol service followed the Christmas Draw and one of the highlights over the period at the Golf Club was the visit of Santa Claus to over 60 children who were enjoying the club’s popular Children’s Christmas Party.
Santa arrived at the clubhouse and he delivered every child a special present.
Following all the festivities, attention switched to one of the most important days of the golfing calendar, New Year’s Day, when the new captains come into office.
Hundreds of members and guests swarmed to the club to watch the traditional Captains’ Tee Off and they were all surprised to see the incoming captains turn up in fancy dress.
New ladies’ section captain Pat Neal and gents’ captain Doug Turner as well as their vice captains Jenny West and Barry White turned up dressed as the Teletubbies.
Dipsy, Tinky Winky, La La and Po entertained the large crowds with their dancing and jigging.
After the first tee frivolities the incoming captains turned their attention to the important task of hitting their first official tee-shot which members have been betting on for some time.
Both Turner and Neal hit reasonable shots and once the distances were measured the lucky winners who guessed their distances were presented with their prizes.
Mike Boldy won the star prize for guessing the captain’s tee shot and Pat Smith managed to guess the lady captain’s drive.
The packed clubhouse enjoyed a number of speeches which saw the outgoing captains Mike Wilkinson and Jean Shepherd receiving thanks for all their efforts throughout 2012.
The new captains were officially welcomed into their new positions and they were both presented their respective captain’s brooch and tie.
The vice-captains were also introduced to the members as the new captain elects.
It looks set to be another busy year at Bridlington Golf Club and hopefully the weather will be much kinder in 2013.
