In 2012 Peter Gulc and Sarah Wood flew across the Atlantic to run in the New York Marathon only to suffer the disappointment of not being able to run when the event was cancelled at the last minute following the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Undaunted, they put in the months of training again this year and, on Sunday, the pair completed the event along with 40,000 other runners.
Gulc had a time of 3:13:27 and Wood finished in 3:24:44.
Closer to home on Sunday, nearly 1,300 runners lined up outside the Spa in Scarborough for the Yorkshire Coast 10K. Among this number were 29 members of Bridlington Road Runners.
First to finish was Martin Smith, who was 41st in a chip time of 39:30 and, close behind him was new member Tony Smith in 45th place with 39:51.
Not too far behind were Andy Baker and Simon Ellerker who finished in 50th and 54th places respectively with times of 40:07 and 40:12.
The first Bridlington woman home was Janet Potter with a time of 45:42 and, along with Carolyn Allanson and Kerry Whitehead, they claimed third place in the Ladies Team event.
