The thoughts of Bridlington coach Rich Girking after the 18-11 win over Selby.
Our objective was to get back to basics and carry the ball as much as we could. We won our own lineouts, got plenty of scrummage ball and ran hard at the opposition, getting aggressive at the breakdown.
We scored a couple of fantastic tries in the first half and one in the second half and I think the scoreline flattered Selby in the end. They scored right at the end, for a bonus point, but if we had been more clinical, there was maybe 30 points to be had.
The defence was superb. A quarter of an hour either side of half-time, at 12-6, Selby really put pressure on our line but we didn’t concede, which is great credit to our lads.
We didn’t make many changes after defeat at Ilkley, so the lads had a chance to redeem themselves. A lot of guys who were there said it was a good game to watch.
I would say it was our best performance since Christmas, bearing in mind I missed our win at Doncaster Phoenix.
Three teams who have put 50 points past us away from home have now been beaten at Dukes Park.
I am now looking to end the season with two wins.
