“WE woke up on Saturday morning on a cold but sunny day, looking forward to our trip to Stockton in the National Cup.
“We had two excellent sessions in preparation and a strong side to boot.
“Then came the dreaded call, two inches of snow had fallen overnight in Teesside and the game was postponed.
“Then we had the news the game must be played this weekend, therefore meaning our double header of league match and Turnbull Trophy versus local rivals Driffield has to be rearranged leaving us with massive logistical problems, with three league games to fit in, plus losing a lucrative bar taking and it has undone all the hard work done by the committee in filling our sponsors room for next week’s game.
“On the upside we now know we will play Eccles from Manchester in the next round on March 16 if we progress, and must win by a five-point margin to guarantee a much needed home draw.
“Our seconds took centre stage on the first team pitch against a strong Beverley side and although narrowly losing in a pulsating game, they gave a hugely encouraging performance and with a bit more luck could have won the match.
“Hopefully this will give them confidence for the rest of the season and I look forward to seeing them at training this week, to give Steve and Tom some selection headaches.”
