Middlesbrough RUFC U17 12
BRIDLINGTON returned to league action on Sunday and recorded a convincing victory to gain revenge for defeat away at Middlesbrough on the opening day of the season.
The first of the home side’s six tries were scored after just five minutes following a sweeping move across the pitch started by Oliver Stephenson and then with Scott Stevens, Josh Bowles and William Walker combining to gave Spencer Day the opportunity to run the ball over in the corner.
Sam Emmerson was faced with a difficult conversion chance from out wide to narrowly miss.
Middlesbrough squandered an opportunity to reduce the arrears when they placed a penalty kick wide of the posts and soon after they fell further behind.
Good play from Emmerson, Tom Benninger and Rob Tindall presented Day with his second try of the game and Emmerson converted successfully to give Bridlington a 12-0 half time advantage.
The second half opened with Bridlington pressure straight from the whistle when Conner Porter-King ran at the opposition before finding Mike Clayton to force his way over, but the conversion was not added.
Another try soon followed when Middlesbrough attempted to kick clear and the ball fell to Benninger to pass to Stevens who then fed it to Clayton to run across field for another try in the corner.
Midway through the half Middlesbrough were given the opportunity to score an unconverted try to reduce the arrears, but Bridlington responded soon after with a well worked try scored by Anthony Parker powering his way through.
Stephenson then tried his luck with the conversion and placed the ball between the posts.
Middlesbrough added another try and conversion of their own as the clock ticked down and the game ended with Jordan Bingham running down the flank to score another try for the home side
