Glorious sunshine blessed the 20th annual Seaside Pro/Am Golf event held last Friday at Bridlington Golf Club.
The day proved hugely successful and confirmed its reputation as the largest event of its kind in the North of England. The quality of the golf was first class with some fine performances from the professionals and amateur Golfers.
Event organiser Anthony Howarth said: “The event was a resounding success and the icing on the cake was the glorious weather we experienced on the day.
“The weather is always a concern and with the recent heavy rain we have experienced we were certainly very lucky to have near perfect summer conditions on the day.”
In total, 49 professionals from around the North of England graced the fairways at Bridlington Golf Club and 147 amateurs joined them to make up the four man teams.
The Bridlington Free Press Trophy and cheque for £1,200, presented to the leading professional, was won by young Europro player Liam O’Neill from Cookridge Hall Golf Club.
O’Neill shot an excellent four-under-par 68 and afterwards he was very complimentary about the quality of the Belvedere course.
He won by the narrow margin of a single shot from former winner Adrian Ambler from Low Laithes Golf Club.
There was a solid performance from Bridlington Golf Club assistant professional Jamie Coughlin who shot a very creditable level par 72 to pick up a healthy cheque for joint fifth place.
The keenly contested Lloyd Dowson Team Trophy was eventually won by the team Bradley Roofing consisting of local Bridlington Golf Club members Tim Moore, Ryan Rawson and Shaun Bradley.
Their professional was the individual winner Liam O’Neill. They scored an excellent score of 127 (17-under-par) which was five shots better than the runners-up.
All the prizes up for grabs throughout the day were presented by Simon Nuttall representing the main sponsors Lloyd Dowson Chartered Accountants.
During the prizegiving many people were thanked for helping make the day such a huge success. Those thanked included the officials from the Yorkshire PGA, the catering and bar staff at Bridlington Golf Club and also the many members who helped and generously offered their services throughout the day.
Head greenkeeper Shaun Drum and his team were particularly praised for the course which was in immaculate condition.
Mr Howarth took the opportunity of thanking all the companies who sponsored the event and in particular the main sponsors of the event Lloyd Dowson Chartered Accountants for their incredible commitment and support over the past 12 years.
During the day, an impressive £1,200 was raised for the charity of the day, which this year was Bridlington Lifeboat.
Lifeboat mechanic Chris Brompton was on hand to receive the cheque and expressed his thanks to everyone who gave so generously to help raise such an excellent amount.
David Dowson from Lloyd Dowson Accountants officially brought the day to a close by thanking everyone for their support and a special mention to the event organiser Mr Howarth for all his hard work in organising the event.
He also announced that Lloyd Dowson would continue as main sponsors for the next two years. The 2016 event will take place on Friday 3 June.
