Preparations continue for new rugby season

Bridlington RUFC’s pre-season preparations continue this weekend with a trip to face Barnsley in a friendly.

The club face a tough challenge matching the heights of last season, which culminated with a visit to Twickenham for the National Intermediate Cup final.

They began their warm-up for 2013/14 last Saturday at Beaver Park, where they were crushed 57-5 by Beverley. But since Beverley won the North One East title last season by a huge margin, they were always likely to provide extremely tough opposition.

Barnsley were relegated after their first season in Yorkshire One in May and Bridlington beat them home and away.

Bridlington’s league campaign begins a week on Saturday (September 7) with a trip to Pontefact with York being the first visitors to Dukes Park on September 14.

Kick off in the friendly is at 3pm and the squad meet at 11.30am.

Squad: Martin Robinson, Gary Stevens, Will Davies, Ryan Girking, A.J. Burrows, Tom Kemp, Stevie Mellonby, Ezra Luxton, Morgan Kinnaird, Adam Dixon, Callum Cappleman, Micky Edmond, Gary Heeley, Ali Sutton, Tom Benninger, TJ Freeman, Tom Brown
