Westgate Bowling Club welcomed 41 bowlers from around the region for an Over 60s Singles Merit. It was an all day event playing for the WG Allen Trophy.
With the weather being kind there was some excellent bowling in the early rounds with many close games.
By mid afternoon, at the quarter final stages, it was still difficult to choose who would be the eventual winner.
The games were fiercely competitive with Frank Povey edging past home green bowler D Parkin 21-17 and E Dawson having a titanic tussle with J Lawton, whom she beat to 18.
In the other half of the draw the bowling was equally as enthralling with Harry Old beating J Holmes 21-19 and D Bould running out winner against Ros Bland 21-9
Down to the last four and the spectators were not to be disappointed with both games producing some exciting ends, Povey inching past Dawson to go into the final 21-18 and after going end for end Old eventually got the better of Bould going through to the final 21-17.
It was to be an all-Hunmanby final with both players members of the North Yorkshire club. Povey was to get the better of the early exchanges form which Old was never to recover, eventually losing 21-9.
The presentation was made by Peter Hawkins, the president of Westgate Bowling Club who also thanked David Wilson for organising the event and for green keeping and all the people who helped out in the kitchen and the measurers and markers.
