Flamborough Head Golf Club hosted its Junior Open with young competitors from the region competing for the prestigious Warburton Trophy for the best gross score.
This year’s winner was the host club’s Georgina Hirst with a score of 76, five over scratch. In second place with 78 was Brenden Wright from Bridlington Golf Club.
For Hirst, the win capped a great week of golf for her as she also qualified to play in the finals of the 23rd Junior European Open with a gross 76 (five-over-par) at Kendal Golf Club on August 18.
The Champions Week takes place on the Costa del Sol in Spain at the end of November and it will be the first time for Hirst to play golf abroad.
Division One was won by Tom Thornton from Bridlington Golf Club with a nett 68. Second was Mitchell Collins, also from Bridlington, with 75 and third was Quinn Haigh from Flamborough Head with 76.
Division Two winner was John Wilkins from Bridlington with 66, and he also collected the Daily Telegraph 14 and under best gross prize.
In second place was Bradley Marshall from Bridlington, also with 66, and third was Flamborough Head’s Jensen Stork with 70.
Winning Division Three was Amy Stavely from Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club with a superb 48, well in front of Flamborough’s Lee Hanson with 37 and Dan Hartley with 28.
The Daily Telegraph best girl was won by Lara Ackers.
For the youngeraspiring golfers, a nine-hole blue course stableford competition was included and it was won by Luke Banks from Flamborough, just in front of Callum Langham and Jack Rands, both from Bridlington Links Golf Club.
