TWO members of the Bridlington Blades Fencing Club were flying the flag for the town at the Olympic fencing competition.
Wearing their club outfits, president Joy Fleetham and secretary Val Hoodless travelled down to the capital to watch the world’s finest.
“We managed to see five hours of magical fencing,” said Joy. “The only disappointment was the standard of the British team, I think Val and I could have got up there and done better.
“The Italians and the French were outstanding though.
“It was a huge arena with four bouts going on at once, and whoever says fencing is not a popular sport should have seen that it was absolutely packed. There wasn’t a single empty seat.
“Although it was a very tiring day, we couldn’t believe how kind and helpful everyone was.”
