O’Neill wins Merit final

More than 50 bowlers entered this years Dukes Park Over 60s singles merit which was sponsored by Ernest Brigham funeral directors and Barbara Thornton in memory of Tony Thornton who was a member of Dukes Park for over 20 years and sadly passed away last year.

In the quarter finals Dennis O’Neill (Dukes Park) beat Sheila Dyson (Brid Bay) 21-16, John Cooper (North Cliff) beat Mick Ridge (Eastfield) 21-13, John Lawton (Dukes Park) beat Jean Povey (Hunmanby) 21-11 and Pete Richards (Hunmanby) beat Derrick Swift (North Cliff) 21-16.

The semi finals saw Lawton go out to Richards 21-16 and Cooper after a hard battle to O’Neill 21-20.

O’Neill and Richards played a brilliant final with O’Neill running out winner after 24 ends 21-18.

Gordon Scorah as president thanked all those involved in the day’s merit including Barbara Thornton and Chris Brunning from Ernest Brigham who then presented the prizes to the finalists.
