Ben Malone is into the finals of the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Boxing Championships after a convincing win in the Yorkshire final at the weekend.
That was his second win in five days, after he was drawn to box in a semi-final against Kercho Rushcov from the Gladiators club in Huddersfield
That bout took place in Sheffield last Wednesday and although Rushcov was a much taller southpaw opponent, the experience of the Bridlington boxer came through, with his speed and work rate taking over and winning him the contest.
In the Yorkshire final, Malone was up against Reneil Thompson from the Manor Boxing Club in Sheffield.
Thompson was another tall rangy boxer but one who wanted to mix it up in the middle of the ring. Again Malone used his work rate to keep on top of his opponent, who just could not keep up with the pace of the contest.
Malone got the verdict from the judges and will now go forward to join Bridlington team-mates Leah Smith and Charlotte Jarvis in the national stages of the competition, which will start with a pre-quarter-final this Sunday against the North East area champion.
