You have to hand it to crown green bowler David Lowe, of Dukes Park, Bridlington - he’s versatile.
After losing out 21-20 to Whitby’s Geoff Watson in the Westgate BC singles merit competition, on Sunday, Lowe, a right hander, entered the tea and biscuits consolation event and played two of his four games with his left hand.
And he won the competition with a 21-15 defeat of North Cliff’s Dave Moment in the final.
There was a more serious approach to the main competition where, in the quarter-finals and playing with their natural hands, Ray Leeman (Whitby) beat club-mate Kenny Wale 21-10, Geoff Watson defeated North Cliff’s Derrick Swift 21-19, Billy Holdsworth (Dukes Park) saw off Dave Clark 21-19 and Alan Landers (Whitby) beat Harry Old (Hunmanby) 21-19.
In the semi-finals Watson beat his club-mate Leeman while Landers defeated Holdsworth.
The all-Whitby final saw Landers triumph 21-13.
