THE Free Press can claim it played a small part in Louise Taylor becoming the best cross country runner in Humberside for her age group.
December’s snow and ice threatened to play havoc with her training schedule, so mum Hannah got in touch with the Free Press.
An appeal to readers to loan a treadmill drew a great response and meant the 13-year-old could carry on clocking up the miles safely, without the threat of slipping on the frosty ground and risking an injury.
Hannah said: “We really appreciate the support we got. Thank you to everyone who phoned after reading the article.
“We must have had more than 20 calls with offers to loan a treadmill, or go through to use other people’s.
“We would also like to thank Leisure World for their support too.”
After winning the East Riding Championships, Louise, who lives in Rudston, competed in the Humberside Finals at St Mary’s Sports College in Hull and won the Year Nine race there too.
That means a trip to the English Schools Championships later this year when she will proudly wear the Yorkshire vest.
