The final of Bridlington Links’ EGGS Section’s Summer Knockout took place last Thursday and illustrated once again how difficult an event this is to win.
Being a medal format is one hurdle, but being over 36 holes makes it a true reflection of consistent golf. John Lamont finished his two rounds with a nett score of two-under-par to take the title in a very tight finish.
Peter McBride was a shot away in second place after a nip-and-tuck battle that was a credit to both players. Age is no barrier in golf, with EGGS’ most senior Member Eric Giles finishing third.
On the same day, a first-class performance from a winning four ball gave them a stunning victory in a Texas Scramble. Jim Kirby, Brian Isham, John Kelly and Brian Higham returned a card of 28.5 shots for nine holes. over three shots clear of Mike Lidster, Mal Eades, Brian Rudd and Ian Doig.
The last 18-hole competition of the week saw another win for Roy Porter, who finished three points in front of Ken Rooke.
