A wonderful year for Bridlington’s Stuart Hicken got even better when he was named London International Hall Of Fame Grandmaster of the Year.

The head coach of Bridlington Martial Arts And Fitness Centre was invited to a seminar of the World Council in London and was given the accolade in front of a host of visiting experts from around the globe.

He said: “This is the best thing I could have imagined winning. After all the work I have put in over the years, I now feel like I have achieved something really special.

“It will benefit our club, and Bridlington and proves that it doesn’t matter where your are from, or your background, everybody has a chance.

“I hope students and local people will be inspired to work hard.”

Hicken was nominated for the award by Frank Sanchez, who owns gyms in Florida and New York, but had to perform at the London seminar, which attracted grandmasters from Germany, Switzerland, Protugal, Spain, Greece, Ireland and China.

“To be recognised by the Hall Of Fame is something I never expected. Thanks to everyone who has helped my to reach this level,” he added.
