Westway ABC man George Horner finally steps into the ring tonight for his first professional contest.

The light-welterweight takes on Ibrar ‘Smokin’ Riyaz at Barnsley Metrodome, on a bill which also features his stablemate George Rhodes Jnr.

“I’m ready for action,” vowed Horner.

“A fight is a fight. You fight whoever they put in front of you.

“I know the lad I am boxing has been on the circuit for years. He has had around 90 fights and although he only has around 10 wins, he is a tough durable journeyman.

“He will give me a good test and that is what I need in my first fights.”

Rhodes Jnr faces debutant Liam Wright in what will be his third pro outing.

Rhodes said: “I’m just pleased to be fighting and if I box how I can then he’ll have to be very good to give me problems.

“Tickets have gone well again, especially as it’s just before Christmas so thanks to everyone for their support, it’s much appreciated.”
