IT HAS been an eventful and exciting time for Bridlington-Millau Pétanque Club.
The knockout Club Championship reached its climax last week with Ron Hersee becoming club champion for 2012 by defeating Ted Beetham 13-7 in the final.
The Plate Competition, for players eliminated in the first round, was won by Malcolm Oates who defeated Christine Cann in the final.
The competition was played throughout the season and provided some thrilling 13-12 matches as well as a number of shock results where the form book was turned upside down.
Well done to all the 26 loyal players who took part.
Several of the members travelled to Wigginton PC to take part in the EPA Northern Regional Pairs Championship with 20 teams competing for the right to be the best double act in the North of England.
The tournament was played on a league basis in the morning and dependent on how well you did you were allocated a place in one of three seeded afternoon divisions, known as the Main, the Plate and the Consolage.
The all-Bridlington team of Aled Jones and Malcolm Oates easily made it into the Main and in their first encounter they played magnificently to beat a highly fancied duo 13-12.
In their nail-biting semi-final contest Jones and Oates played the top seeded pair and lost 13-5 but they still went on to finish in third place overall, an excellent result for Bridlington.
Congratulations go to another local player, Christine Cann, who along with her partner Don Jackson (York RI PC) came first in the Consolage, winning all three of their afternoon games.
BRIDLINGTON-Millau PC is hosting a three-day pétanque event during the Bank Holiday weekend.
Those wanting to come along and participate or just to spectate will be given a very warm welcome, play starts at 10am on each of the three days.
