BRIDLINGTON lifeguard Ryan Hepworth heads to Hawaii next week for the Iron Man Triathlon World Championships.
He told the Free Press: “The training has been a bit of a struggle. You put so much into an Iron Man triathlon that doing another one 10 weeks later is not ideal.
“Physically and mentally, you need time to recover but if you can’t get motivated for the world championships, you never will.
“I’ll probably be doing 16 hours of training this week, and I’ve been able to use the acclimatisation chamber at Hull University every day until I fly out.
“I know I can do the distance, the heat and humidity will be the challenge. It could be pushing 40C.”
Hepworth qualified for the World Championships by excelling at the British Championships in Bolton last month.
He will spend a week in Hawaii getting used to the conditions, before the big race on October 8.
