HARVEY Roberts of Burlington Junior School competed in the Yorkshire Schools Biathlon Finals at Driffield Leisure Centre on Sunday and was the overall winner for Year 4 boys.

The competitors had to complete a 500m run and then a 50m swim, gaining points in each discipline.

Harvey, aged nine, finished in third place in the run and then came the swim which he won in a time of 39:54s, which is close to his personal best for freestyle.

This took him into first place overall. Harvey now has to wait until November to see if his times will place him high enough in the rankings to compete in the National Semi-Finals which will be held in Macclesfield in January, with the National Finals taking place at Crystal Palace in March 2013.

Harvey is a member of Driffield Swimming Club, Driffield Striders and the Yorkshire Biathle Club based in Hull.

Next week sees him swimming and running at the Humber Schools Games at Hull and Scunthorpe as a member of the Burlington teams, and then competing in a GB Series Biathle competition at Blackpool, all within the space of three days.
