BRIDLINGTON Road Runners’ Peter Gulc set a new course record of 38 minutes 40 seconds as he won the Filey 10k Beach Race.

The race started at the Filey Country Park, and after an opening kilometre down to the beach, continued on the sands towards Flamborough Head, then returned back to the Country Park via a steep climb by the Sailing Club, and a final loop around the headland to the finish line.

The runners had to battle with some strong head winds on the outward leg, but the weather was otherwise ideal for the race.

Scarborough AC’s Mark Colling, who was the winner of the 2010 race but had not raced since then due to a spate of running injuries, looked likely to win again, but was edged out on the final loop by Gulc.
