Gulc leads the Bridlington team home as ladies take third place

The second Cross Country race in the East Yorkshire League took place on Sunday at Drewton Woods, on the outskirts of South Cave.

Surprisingly, after the recent rain, the conditions turned out not to be too muddy and there were patches of frost underfoot in places.

Following his recent return from the New York Marathon, the first Bridlington runner to finish was Peter Gulc in 22nd place in a time of 46:20.

Next home were Tony Smith and John Nolan who were 40th and 43rd respectively in times of 48:47 and 48:59. John Potter also put in a strong performance to finish 51st in 49:51.

Emma Brown was the first Bridlington woman to finish in a time of 50:17 and she was the fourth lady.

Bridlington were the third ladies team with the other two team counters being Cathy Wood in 52:53 and Pearl Bayford in 56:41.

In the Quibell Park Open Cross Country event at Scunthorpe, Shaun Foster continued his good run of form to finish 10th in the 3400m Under 15 Boys race in 15:08.

Saturday was another great day for running at Sewerby and the bright morning saw a big field of 91 runners taking part in the Parkrun. Simon Ellerker put in a wonderful performance to finish second in a personal best time of 19:22.

Acting as pacemaker, Phill Taylor crossed the line in the same time in third position.
