THE sponsors of one of Bridlington’s biggest and richest golf competitions have confirmed they will continue to back the event.
Lloyd Dowson’s deal with the Seaside Pro/Am had run out, but the chartered accountants have agreed to extend their support for another year.
The family run firm took over as main sponsors of the event back in 2002, and since their involvement and financial support the event has grown into one of the biggest one day Pro/Am events in Yorkshire and the North of England.
Company chairman David Dowson said: “We are pleased to continue our sponsorship of such a great event.”
Seaside Pro/Am organiser Anthony Howarth, who is director of golf at Bridlington Golf Club said: “The event would still have gone ahead but it would have been difficult to guarantee the record prize money for the professionals and amateurs.
“I would like to thank David and Christine Dowson and everyone at Lloyd Dowson’s for their continued support and I hope this year’s event will prove to be the best yet.
“I would also like to thank Andrew Jackson Solicitors in Hull for their continued support”.
More than 50 professionals take part in the event chasing the top prize of £2,000 and they are all joined by three amateur partners who will be keenly contesting the excellent team prizes up for grabs, including the much-coveted Lloyd Dowson Team Trophy.
There was local success last year when Alex Belt from Bridlington Links took first prize and he will no doubt be keen to repeat the success when this year’s event is held on Friday, June 3.
The event traditionally raises money for local worthwhile charities and this year will be no exception when the funds raised during the day will be presented to Saint Catherine’s Hospice.
This year will be the 16th annual Seaside Pro/Am and to date the event has raised nearly £50,000 for charity.
