The 22nd annual Bridlington Golf Festival was declared a success by the hundreds of golfers who visited the town to compete in the 13 events held at the area’s three courses.
The week started and ended in glorious sunshine but in between the golfers battled gale force winds, heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and bitterly cold temperatures, but everyone kept smiling and the event was enjoyed by all those who travelled to Bridlington from all corners of the UK and also some keen golfers from Holland.
During the week three prize presentations were held. The first took place on Monday at Flamborough Head Golf Club when the winners of the Junior Championship where presented with their prizes.
The second presentation took place on Wednesday evening at Bridlington Golf Club where club captain Dean Thompson warmly welcomed all the winners and alongside the lady captain Viv Stevenson presented the many prizes on offer.
The final presentation was held at Flamborough Head Golf Club on Saturday evening where captain Kev Davey and lady captain Sue Towse did the honours.
During the ceremonies, thanks were expressed to the many volunteers and helpers who contributed towards making the event such a success, in particular the caterers, bar staff and green keeping staff at the three courses.
Festival organiser Anthony Howarth said: “The week was once again a resounding success and so many people helped.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of them on behalf of the Bridlington Golf Festival committee.”
Golfers played almost 2,500 competitive rounds of golf and somewhere in the region of 250,000 shots were played, which highlights how big the event has become, since the first event back in 1994.
The festival won the Bridlington Town Council Award for outstanding contribution to the community at this year’s Free Press Sports Awards.
Details of the 2016 Golf Festival, which runs from Monday May 2, are already in circulation and anybody who would like details can collect the 2016 brochures from any of the host golf clubs.
