Flamborough teenager Joe Forde is celebrating after a call up to the England pool squad.
The Headlands School pupil had been hoping to represent his country at next year’s European Blackball Championships at Bridlington Spa.
But he has now received confirmation that he has been selected for the under 18s squad for an event in Northern Ireland next month
Forde will be involved in the European Blackball Association’s Nations Cup in Coleraine.
Dad Simon said: “Joe had trials three months ago in Mansfield for the under 18s team for the Spa event next April.
“Then we had a letter through last week asking him to travel to Northern Ireland next month.
“At the trials, he was up against people from all over the country.
“He already plays for East Yorkshire, and because they don’t have an under 18 team, he has been representing the open age team.”
At the trials in Mansfield, 88 hopefuls were seeking one of only eight spots in the England squad.
They accumulated ranking points from competitions and it required a great end to the day for Forde to book his place.
“He started off a bit shaky,” said Simon. “But he improved a lot and before the last tournament, the organiser said he needed to do well to progress.
“He was against the England under 18s captain in the quarter finals but he beat him and went on to win the tournament.”
The 15-year-old will be playing in the individuals and doubles events in Coleraine and Simon added: “He is really excited.
“Joe does nothing but play pool andsnooker. The Flamborough Victoria Club have really looked after him over the past four years.
“They saw his potential and said that if he had someone there to coach him, he could go there, even though he is not 18.”
He will have plenty of support from friends and family at The Spa next April, as he takes on the best young players from the UK and all over Europe.
He has already received sponsorship from MD Cars, the Rose and Crown, High Street Fisheries in Flamborough and Ian Watson Upholstery in Bridlington.
