KILHAM’S Rachel Bell’s fell at the final hurdle in her bid to qualify for this year’s British Open.
She was left ruing a nightmare start at the final qualifying round at Caldy on Monday, and eventually missed out on a coveted place by just two strokes.
Bell carded a five-over-par 77, but was always up against it after dropping five shots in the first five holes.
Having sailed through the preliminary round in Berkshire, where she tied for fifth on level-par, she had played practice rounds on the Wirral course to boost her chances of making it through.
But after the poor start, she was only able to find one birdie, on the 18th, in her bid to stay in touch with the leaders.
Bell said: “The battle for places is fierce every year and those who make it into the final field definitely deserve to be there.
“Final qualifying is one round, no room for mistakes or having an off day Just like pre-qualifying it’s one round, all or nothing.
