The last competitive tournament of the 2013 Northern area boules season saw Bridlington players once again commanding the top two positions.
Fourteen pairs teams came to Dukes Park on a wet and windy October morning. The all-Bridlington duo of Christine Cann and Robert Fox did really well together and produced some excellent petanque despite the weather making the terrains difficult going.
After a number of thrilling encounters Cann and Fox found themselves in top spot on six wins nd +48 points, but they were pushed to their limits by two other in-form teams. In joint runner-up position on six wins and +46 points were Aled Jones and Robert Eunson (Brandesburton) along with Ted Beetham and his playing partner Debbie Gatenby (Doncaster).
Three talented representatives from Bridlington played in different challenge teams for the Northern Region at Hayling Island in the recently-held Inter-County championship.
Chris O’Rourke’s team gained three hard-fought victories. Madge Jordan’s team gained six superb victories and Beetham’s team excelled with eight wins out of 12.
The Challenge team finished a very creditable fourth in Division One, maintaining its position in the top flight for next year.
There is a 10am start on Saturday for the third round EuroCup tie against Wigginton PC at Dukes Park, spectators are most welcome.
