Members of Westgate bowled for their Dearman Cup trophy, in a singles competition which has been competed for since the 1930s.

In the first round proper, on a beautiful sunny day on Sunday, Alan Cheetham had a hard fought game against Tommy Donald, but managed to come through it 21-17 while Nigel Gordon just managed to overcome Pam Watts in a close encounter, 21-19.

In the second half of the draw Doris Senior lost to Judith Hellawell 6-21, while Mike Long had an easier game against newcomer Vera Walmsley, playing in her first singles competition ever. Long winning 21-3.

In the semi finals Long had another strong game when he beat Hellawell 21-8.

In the other semi final Gordon proved to be no match for Cheetham who was going from strength to strength, winning 21-13.

The final produced some excellent bowling, but Cheetham proved too strong for Long, winning the final 21-12.
