BURLINGTON Junior School saw off competition from 10 other teams at the East Riding Primary Schools Swimming Gala Final 2011.
Bridlington was represented by both Burlington and Martongate Primary at Beverley Leisure Complex, both teams having shared first place in the qualifier, held in the spring, at Leisure World.
With three heats in every event, qualification for the finals was closely fought. Burlington secured swimmers in nine of the 12 finals.
Girls: 1-length backstroke: 2nd Rose Dennis, 7th Emma Sandbach.
1-length breaststroke: 1st Maya Bentley, 2nd Megan Pattinson.
2-lengths freestyle: 4th Emma Sandbach.
Boys: 1-length breaststroke: 3rd Jack Cowell;
1-length freestyle: 7th Lloyd Brodie.
The girls’ breaststroke race was a real battle to the end, with Maya narrowly beating Megan by only 1/10 of a second.
Where Burlington came into their own and secured the title of East Riding champions was in the relay events.
They are a close team who work strongly together.
Everyone gave their all and they were placed second in the 4 x 1-length boys’ relay (Lloyd Brodie, Edward Dennis, Daniel King and Tom Holehouse); second in the 4 x 1-length mixed medley relay (Tom Holehouse, Jack Cowell, Rose Dennis and Megan Pattinson); first in the girls’ 4 x1 freestyle relay (Danielle Coverdale, Maya Bentley, Emma Sandbach and Rose Dennis) and first in the 4 x 2-lengths mixed freestyle relay (Edward Dennis, Maya Bentley, Jack Cowell and Megan Pattinson).
The overall results placed Martongate third, Warter second and a jubilant Burlington in first.
Many thanks to the family and friends who travelled to offer their support
