Bridlington director of rugby Richard Girking said his side just about deserevd to win after their second half display.

“He told the Free Press: “I had been on the Internet and read their match reports and read they had a big set of forwards so we worked on that. They were well-organised and robust, a better organised team than we were, but we had better individuals and that’s what saw us through.

“In the first half we looked like a side who had never played together before. The tackling was pretty average and the ball handling was pathetic. Every time we got the ball, we looked like we felt we had to score. Maybe it was just stage-fright.

“At half time, I told them to go through the basics and when we got space, give the ball to our fast men. We relaxed a little bit, although I was terrible on the touchline. I had to go and stand behind the posts at times to compose myself.

“Coalville had worked tremendously hard on the pitch, there was still a foot of snow one one side which they had cleared off the playing surface. But I think we just about deserved it. It could have gone either way but we just sneaked it. We maybe had more options than them.

“Twickenham will be the highlight of my rugby career. I’ve played in Yorkshire Cup semi-finals and Yorkshire Shield finals, I’ve played against England players and numerous other professionals, but this tops it all. I just wish I was still playing.”
