Pre-tournament favourites Yorkshire, featuring Bridlington’s Alex Belt, lived up to their billing as they secured the lead on the opening day of the SkyCaddie PGA England and Wales Inter-County Championship.

Over a sodden Brabazon course at The Belfry, the White Rose trio posted a one-over-par total of 145, with captain Adrian Ambler, of Low Laithes, shooting a level -par 72.

Belt, the North Region number one added a 73 – in the best two scores from three format. Gareth Davies, the third member of the team, carded a 74.

A shot further back on two-over 146 in the five-team championship that carries a £10,000 prize fund are Essex and Wiltshire.

The event is due to be concluded today.
