Bridlington golfer Alex Belt moved one step closer to playing at The Open after an impressive round at the Northumberland Golf Club on Monday.
He will now play in the final qualifying round next week, in a bid to book his place at Royal Liverpool in July.
Belt shot three-under-par on Monday to finish tied for third-place, with the top seven of the 74 players going through to the final stage.
He said: “I’m performing well of late and just need to maintain this by continuing to adjust and evolve in the way I want to play the game, then as a consequence good results will hopefully occur
Belt is now waiting to hear which of the four courses holding next week’s final qualifying rounds he will be playing at.
Gailes Links, Hillside, Sunningdale New and Woburn are all hosting events, which will see around 80 players at each venue playing 36 holes next Tuesday.
The top three from each course will get through to golf’s most prestigious tournament.
Belt thanked Lloyd Dowson, Snainton Golf Centre and the Crown Spa Hotel for their continued support.
