A first for Hirst - Teenager hits hole-in-one

STEPHEN Hirst chose an unusual way to celebrate finishing his A Levels and leaving school by scoring a hole in one last week.

Partnering his Mum, Gillian Hirst, in the Harold Flowers Trophy at Flamborough Head, he hit his nine iron from the elevated tee on the par-three 10th hole, 141 yards, and was delighted to see his ball roll across the green and into the hole for the coveted hole-in-one.

Making it a family affair sister Georgina has been helping Flamborough Head Golf Club’s junior section by raising money to buy a selection of left handed clubs for use by the juniors.

The money raised was a project she set herself to help the section when it was realised that the club did not have sufficient left handed clubs to loan to juniors who were interested in learning to play golf.

Georgina can be seen in the centre of the picture with the clubs and some of the juniors who will benefit from her efforts.
