York Senior League – Division One
BRIDLINGTON entertained local rivals Sewerby in this eagerly anticipated derby game.
Sewerby won the toss and put the home team in to bat first.
Aidy Long took three early wickets and Russ Robinson one as the home side slipped to 30/4.
Another wicket fell and runs were hard to come by for Bridlington and at the 30-over mark they were struggling on 52/5.
Steve Janney joined Rich Lount and the pair had regrouped and put on 76 when Janney was caught and bowled for 20. Lount followed shortly after for an excellent 60.
Joe Edmundson came to the crease and tried to take the attack to Sewerby. He was looking in good touch and was striking the ball well and a score of 180 was looking on the cards but a run out to a quick bit of fielding off his own bowling by Russ Robinson, and the returning Long picking up the last two wickets, meant Edmundson was left stranded on 36 not out and Bridlington were all out for 154.
The pick of the Sewerby bowlers was Long with 6-20.
The Sewerby innings started positively through Ben Dobson and the more watchful Luke Jennison.
Dobson was the main aggressor and the partnership was 67 before the Sewerby skipper was bowled for a run-a-ball 47.
Chris Chapman and Russ Robinson soon followed and the score was delicately poised at 84/3.
A couple of showers of rain resulted in short breaks in play and when play resumed properly two more wickets fell to the spin duo of Casey Rudd and Janney.
Sewerby fell to 106/6, still needing a further 49 for victory and Bridlington were on top and sensing a victory.
However, good batting by the experienced duo of Mike Artley (25 not out) and Robin Coates (32 not out) saw Sewerby inch towards the target and gain victory with more than 10 overs to spare.
Rudd with 3-36 was the most successful home bowler well supported by Janney 2-27.
