Sewerby 1sts 215/7 beat Pickering 214/6
York Senior League Division One
SKIPPER Ben Dobson kept up the habit of winning the toss and invited Pickering to bat first.
Openers Cass and Shepherd batted steadily and helped by two dropped catches put on 47 before Shepherd was out for 27.
Cass went on to make 35 before being out with the score on 88 for 3.
This brought together the experienced pairing of Colin Frank and Dave Greenlay who accumulated runs steadily with the occasional boundary and put on 120 runs in 19 overs before Greenlay was out for 58 in the penultimate over with the score on 208.
Two wickets for Aidy Long in the final over restricted Pickering to 214 for 6 from their 48 overs.
For Sewerby, Long finished with 2-85 from 21 overs, Russ Robinson 2-67 from 16 overs and Lewis Beasley 1-34.
Dobson returned to his usual position as opener after last week’s injury and together with Luke Jennison put on 56 for the first wicket before he was out for 29.
Chris Chapman kept the momentum going until he was run out for 20 and when Jennison fell for 30 the score was 107 for 3 after 29 overs.
Russ Robinson and Mike Artley came together and kept the score ticking along nicely but when Artley was out for a fine 43, the score was 188 for 4 with 27 runs needed from 3.5 overs.
Robinson hit two sixes from the next over that yielded 15 runs leaving just two runs needed to win from the final over.
The dramatic last over saw Ricky Robinson out lbw to the first ball having made 13, Robin Coates was bowled with the third ball without scoring and Lewis Beasley was run out off the next ball.
Russ Robinson was on strike and two leg byes off the penultimate ball gave Sewerby the victory with one ball to spare.
