Grimson's perfect ten

Dave Grimson managed a superb haul of 10 points from 10 at The Coachman on Friday night to catapult himself into 3rd position in the Premier Darts League hitting 26 x 100+ and 11 x 140+ scores on the night and finishing with an overall sda for the night of 25.09.

Dave came up against the current second placed player Barry Balaban in his first game and although the score line was 3-0 in Dave’s favour it could have been 3-0 to Barry as missed doubles cost him dearly but it’s doubles that count in darts and Dave took full advantage punishing Barry and starting the night with a sda of 71.57. It was Mally Hustwaite up next for Dave in his second game of the night and again there was double trouble as Mally missed darts at the double in the first and third legs for a draw but Dave was waiting to pounce and pounce he did winning comfortably 3-0 for another 2 points and a sda of 63.51.

Phil Downsworth went 1-0 up against Dave in his next game with a brilliant 17 darts and could have gone 2-0 up as both players teased the double with Dave eventually triumphant, but he made no mistake in the next 2 legs hitting the doubles at the first attempt winning in 19 & 16 darts with a sda of 76.52 and yet again another 2 points. Rich Heathcote snatched the first leg in Dave’s penultimate game of the night with an 82 checkout to go 1-0 up but Dave was starting to warm up now and won 3 legs in a row in 15, 18 & 19 darts with his second highest sda of the night of 82.67 but it was Ian Hustwaite who brought out the best in Dave on the night as Dave moved into the lead 1-0 with a 15 dart leg Ian hit back to level the game at 1-1 but Dave was inspired now and won the next 2 legs in 17 & 19 darts and give him his highest sda of the night of 82.83 simply proper darts.

Another big clash of the night was Barry Balaban v Steve Rice and they did not disappoint with some outstanding darts with the first 2 legs being won against the darts in 14 & 15 darts and with the game tied at 1-1 it was Barry who moved into the lead 2-1 winning with the throw in 19 darts as Steve missed double 20 but Steve put in a 15 dart leg in the last to level the match 2-2 and earn both players a point each and sda’s of 29.75 for Barry and 29.45 for Steve.

Steve Rice, Andy Wheeler and Darren Boyd all managed 5 points for the night with Steve hitting the highest sda of the night with a brilliant 30.06 beating Rich Andrew in 18, 17 & 15 darts.

Barry Balaban and Dave Long managed 4 points with Barry hitting 122 checkout the highest of the night and Dave hitting a superb 13 dart leg the fastest finish in the League to date.

Phil Downsworth, Dave Wilkinson & Ian and Mally Hustwaite all scored 3 points each for the night.
