Gary's Gossip - September 2

The views of Bridlington Town manager Gary Allanson

"THE main thing we have created at the club is a fantastic team spirit where all the players get on with each other and work really hard for each other.

"There is a respect in the changing room from all of us where we don't have to shout and scream and threaten players to get the best out of them or belittle them in the press.

"They are all intelligent lads and all have a very, very good understanding of football and I think it shows how hard we train with the training programme we have created and the attitude the players show towards the programme for us to perform consistently week in, week out.

"As I have said previously this is a transitional period for us and we have to re-build and even though we performed brilliantly against Long Eaton there were only four players in that starting 11 that finished the season with us last year, so we are at the beginning of our next journey.

"At Shildon on Saturday we were not at the races, especially first half and I have to take responsibility for that as I think we were too cautious and I got the tactics wrong.

"Second half we adjusted slightly and we created a few more chances but overall it was the right result and we can't complain.

"It is nice to be top of the league again and proves we must be doing something right but I think Monday was the best performance up to now this season and something we can build on.

"It was a relief to get our first clean sheet and create a lot of chances and some of our football was breathtaking especially as they had one of the best defences in the league.

"It must be great to be a supporter of Bridlington Town at the moment with the entertaining football we are playing.

"A big game on Saturday against Pickering where unfortunately Mark Wood has left who has done a fantastic job there over the years and hopefully he won't be lost to the game.

"Sometimes you can be too long at a club and a change is needed at times to give everyone a fresh start and fresh enthusiasm.

"I think at this level, three or four years is more than enough at a club and then everyone gets a fresh break and the supporters need something that gives them a fresh impetus to move on.

"From where this club was three years ago to where we are now and the success we are getting, the football we are playing with the budget we have to work with is a brilliant achievement.

"The game on Saturday should attract a decent crowd and they should have a new manager in place by then so they will have all guns blazing and we will have to be on our game 100% as they had a fantastic result over the weekend with a 3-0 win at Armthorpe so they will be very positive and full of confidence.

"Hope to see a few more new faces through the turnstiles to watch an entertaining game."
