Futsal league to kick off soon
TEAMS are needed to create a new Futsal league which will kick off in Bridlington later this month.
Open evenings are being held to promote the event, with the overall aim being to have a team from the Bridlington area competing in a national league.
Superstars like Ronaldo, Robinho and Kaka have all honed their skills by playing futsal, an indoor version of football.
And Bridlington Town players, Danny Buttle and Ash Allanson, have played futsal at a high level and been involved with national league teams in the past.
A smaller, less bouncy, ball and a small pitch means players have to concentrate on creativity, short passing and technique. Fast and exciting, the game is all about speed, agility, vision and originality.
The first open evening was held on Tuesday, the next will be held next Tuesday at Bridlington Sports Centre from 7pm until 9.30pm.
Organisers say that two teams have already confirmed and places are on a first come, first served basis for the coming season.
It starts on March 21 and will run on Sundays until June 27.
There will be six or eight teams, playing each other twice, on a 30m x 18m pitch.
Matches last for two halves of 20 or 25 minutes, and each team gets one time-out per game.
The winning team will claim 300 and will represent Bridlington in the Futsal Cup national finals in September.
Entry fee is 100 per team, half of which is refunded when all fixtures are completed, and match fees are around 30 per team to cover venue and referee costs.
