Bridlington Town moved to the top of the NCEL Premier Division after an impressive 2-0 win at fellow title-chasers Cleethorpes Town on Wednesday night.
The result stretched the Seasiders’ unbeaten run to 12 games, and they have gone almost three months since their last defeat.
Full back Benn Lewis was Town’s unlikely hero, scoring a goal in each half to allow his team to overtake Handsworth Parramore at the top of the table.
Lewis volleyed in from 25 yards midway through the first half and sealed the points when he scored a second from Will Waudby’s corner with six minutes remaining.
Handsworth had moved into pole position on Tuesday night, with a 2-0 win at home to struggling Brigg Town. Worksop would have been favoruites to overhaul them, 24 hours later, but they needed a last-minute goal to salvage a draw at Albion Sports.
Their three closest rivals all have four games in hand on them, and Tadcaster have six extra matches to play, but Bridlington have the points on the board.
