Driffield Rangers 2
Bridlington Town Academy 3
East Riding County League Division One
BRIDLINGTON Town Academy travelled for the top of the league title clash with Driffield knowing a point would be enough to crown them as champions.
The game started at a fast pace with the Academy going 1-0 up from a Josh Christlow tap in.
The Academy played some great football and the midfield of Barry Tye, Louis Gregory, Jon Richardson, Christlow and Darren Rookes stopped Driffield getting into the game.
However, at the start of the second half and after a long ball from the Driffield defence, a penalty was awarded for pulling down the Driffield striker and the home team levelled.
The Academy regrouped and were soon 2-1 after a fantastic strike from Darren Rookes.
Then after some good work by Christlow, a thorn in Driffield’s side all game, Ash Robinson converted to make it 3-1.
The Academy don’t like to make it easy and a slip by a defender allowed Driffield to pull one back.
For the last 10 minutes, Brid pushed forward and when the whistle went they were deserved champions.
A good performance on the night which was capped by a first class display by Louis Gregory who was outstanding from the first minute to the last.
THE Barry Tye XI won the first Brid Academy Interclub Challenge, which was held Friday night at Queensgate, after a tense penalty shootout against a strong Louis Gregory XI.
Afterwards an entertaining evening was had by all at the presentation night in the clubhouse.
