Bridlington Rovers retained the Driffield League Premier Division title with a very convincing 4-0 against Mermaid United Old Boys.
Rovers settled early and took the lead on three minutes, Broadbent towering over everyone to meet Josh Pilmoor’s corner with a powerful header at the far post.
Their confidence was obvious as the knocked the ball around the field like champions and it was only a matter of time until the second goal came. Tindall added to his season’s tally by taking advantage of a spill from the Mermaid keeper.
Ben Marshall then rounded off a great team goal as captain Jonny Pilmoor started the move, keeping his nerve at the back and playing the ball wide, sparking a great one-touch move involving several players until the ball eventually arrived at Marshall’s feet with his back to goal, and he spun and smashed the ball in.
Rovers were bossing the game and the fourth should have come quicker than it did but the home keeper pulled off a couple of great saves but there was nothing he could do when the fourth did eventually come from Marshall accurately finding the far corner from the edge of the box.
Man of the match: Jonny Pilmoor
Manager Lee Thomson said: “An impressive display today, scoring four more goals to seal the title. This game was potentially a banana skin but the lads played like champions and from the off it was never in doubt. I’m very proud.”
