NEIL Warnock will be in the dugout at Bridlington Town’s Queensgate stadium later this year, as he manages a team at an all-star charity match.
The Leeds United boss is assembling a team of current and ex-professionals to take on a side made up of celebrities from programmes such as Emmerdale, Eastenders and Hollyoaks
Warnock is good friends with Town manager Mitch Cook, who will be playing. Cook said: “It’s a great opportunity for our club to get involved with something positive.”
The game will be a fund-raiser for the Once Upon A Smile charity, which supports families who have suffered the loss of a parent or child from a long term or terminal illness.
The all-star charity team play regular matches around the country and their squad is made up actors from Emmerdale, Eastenders, Waterloo Road, Shameless, Hollyoaks, Casualty, Coronation Street, Doctors, Upstairs Downstairs and other hit TV shows.
As well as the celebrities, a number of ex-Premiership players have also been involved at previous events.
Bridlington Town chairman Peter Smurthwaite said: “We are expecting a full house of around 2,000 fans at the game.
“We are very lucky to have been able to bring this game to Bridlington, through our contacts.
“It is a big event, not just for the football club but also for the town on a busy Bank Holiday weekend.
“We’ve already booked hotel rooms for the celebrity team, and they will be staying for the weekend.
“We will soon be looking for mascots, who can come along and play mini-soccer with the stars before the main event.”
As well as the football match on Sunday, May 26, there will be an entertainment evening with the celebrities at the Queensgate clubhouse the night before.
