Number 10 Ryan Nicholls equalises for Brid Sports club

Bridlington Sports Club 3

Pocklington Town 4

Within the first 10 minutes of the game Sports Club found themselves a goal down. Mark Davies fouled Sam Taylor in the area and Mark Watkinson made no mistake from the spot.

As the first half progressed it was Sports Club who looked the most composed team with the ball but Pocklington rode their luck at times and their keeper made some excellent saves preventing Sports Club from tying the score line.

However Sports Club eventually managed to get off the mark on 17 minutes.

Luke Gray passed out wide to Davies who advanced down the wing and crossed the ball into the 18 yard box where striker Ryan Nicholls made no mistake as he headed the ball past the keeper.

Sports Club continued to put Pocklington under pressure and just before the interval, they scored again as Scott McEwan played the ball inside to Ryan Nicholls who then threaded the ball through for the spritely Jack Wilkinson to run on to and he coolly slotted the ball past the outstretched keeper.

Into the second half, Sports Club added a third. From Davies’ corner, Nicholls rose above his marker to head the ball home.

Pocklington made changes which soon paid dividends as they scored two goals within 10 minutes.

A Watkinson header was well tipped over on 64 minutes as Pock upped the tempo. Then John Heads’ flick on sent Lee Drobac clear on goal.

His initial shot was parried by Jason Hardcastle but the follow up was finished from close range to put Pock back in the game with plenty of time left.

As the match went into the final quarter, Pock lived dangerously as they left space behind them trying to get a third and Brid spurned a series of chances.

Pocklington got their equaliser on 82 minutes when Drobac set up sub Chris Scott for a break through a square Brid defence.

Although his shot was also saved by Hardcastle, the loose ball was again latched on to for the finish and with Pock now level, they continued to push on for all three points.

A series of long throws and corners peppered the home defence and with the game in the 93rd minute, a Heads corner was met by a floated Scott header, back across goal and in under the crossbar for the winner.

Seconds later the final whistle was blown ending a game which Sports Club threw away.
