Bridlington Excelsior moved into the semi final of the Don Bemrose Trophy with an emphatic win over Driffield Red Lion, despite suffering an early scare.
The Driffield side made the early running, and dominated play for the first 20 minutes, opening the scoring with a well-taken goal.
Excelsiors took a while to get into any sort of rhythm, until Jerome Murphy latched on to a well-timed pass to level matters.
Both teams looked to pass the ball around and chances were created at both ends, and man of the match Murphy popped up again to grab his second of the game.
The second half started with Excelsiors looking to build on their lead and Alex Staveley quickly got Excelsiors’ third with a simple tap in.
Murphy’s pace got him into a good position and place the ball wide of Lion’s keeper to register his hat-trick. Excels kept the pressure on and Jaimie Chapman then got on the scoresheet, followed by a Danny Anderson penalty, to finish off a deserved win.
