Bridlington Sports Club County travelled to East Riding County League Premier Division title challengers St George’s.

Sports Club had a sloppy start giving possession away cheaply. The home team applied pressure from the off and gave the visitors’ defence a very hard time.

Although Sports Club hardly had any of the early possession, they created the first close chance of the game. Louis Leddy played a low pin-point cross between the keeper and defenders to Jake Day who totally missed the ball with the goal gaping.

St George’s carried on their assault and just before half time when a well worked cross was cut back for clever flick past helpless goalkeeper Steve Russell.

Within the first five minutes of the second half starting, Sports Club found themselves 2-0 down from another well worked goal from the left hand side and a tap in at back post.

Sports Club finally got a foothold in the game when Jay Wallace earned a foul on the left hand side. Ross Parker whipped a curling ball in which Day neatly controlled and smashed home with his left foot.

Russell made some crucial saves to ensure the away side still had a chance.

While waiting for a corner, St George’s centre back lost his head, punched Nick Van Heerden and was sent off but this only spurred the hosts on as they hit Sports Club on the counter attack and their centre forward headed a third.

With plenty of room for counter attacks, St George’s centre forward used his pace to get in behind the defence and smashed home a fourth.

Sports Club got a free kick in the dying minutes which Day drilled home for his second of the game.
