Bridlington Sports Club County edged a nine-goal thriller at Dukes Park, as they beat Swinefleet 5-4.

The home side dictated the early exchanges of the East Riding County League Premier Division clash and their defence of Nick Van Heerden, Joe Huyton, Steve Russell and Ross Parker looked strong.

Sports Club took the lead when a long ball from Russell was met by Anthony Dixon from six yards out and he nodded over the onrushing keeper.

Swinefleet soon pegged Sports Club back with a bullet header from William Sparks, but Sports Club didn’t let their heads drop however and were soon 2-1 up.

Huyton met a delightful corner from Josh Wright with a glancing header which the keeper could not handle.

But the defender’s glory soon turned to horror as he turned a cross into his own goal to make it 2-2.

Soon after half-time, Swinefleet took the lead for the first time after a flowing move was turned in by Keir Vause and man of the match Reece Nestor made numerous saves to keep Sports Club in the game.

A triple substitution of Craig Young, Louis Leddy and Jamie Lowe changed the game added energy.

Jake Day equalised with a wonderful half-volley lob from 25 yards which helped him to regain confidence and form after this goal.

He dribbled past a couple of players and rocketed a shot past the helpless keeper to make it 4-3, before completing his hat-trick, after converting Wright’s good work down the left wing.

Swinefleet got a late goal through Cohen Vause but Sports Club held on.
