Cup finals return to Bridlington
TWO of this season’s Driffield League cup finals will be played at Queensgate after discussions between league officials and Bridlington Town chairman Peter Smurthwaite.
The Challenge Cup final and the Arthur Saunderson Trophy final will both be played at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium on Saturday, May 18.
In previous seasons, these showpiece matches have been played at Allotment Lane in Driffield, even when two Bridlington teams have been involved.
League secretary Norman Harris said: “At this year’s AGM we had several of the Bridlington clubs approach the league about holding some of the cup finals at Queensgate.
“As we now have more than half the teams from the Bridlington area, at a meeting of the cup committee, the majority of the members agreed that it may be the right time to have some of the finals back in Bridlington.
“So it was decided that we would split the finals between Bridlington and Driffield holding the Challenge Cup Final and the Arthur Saunderson Trophy final at Queensgate and the League Cup finals, the Don Bemrose Trophy and the Bryan Pannhausen Trophy final at Allotment Lane in Driffield.”
Queensgate will also host a number of East Riding County League cup finals again in the spring. These fixtures will be played on Saturday, May 4 and Saturday, May 11.
