The views of Bridlington Town boss Mitch Cook after their 4-2 win at Hall Road Rangers

“We spoke about how Martin Thacker can deliver a good set piece so it was disappointing to give away a silly free kick they scored from.

“It took a while for the new players to settle in but after we brought James Bennett on for Robbie Hawkes it changed. Bennett hadn’t played for a month which is why he was on the bench.

“We took Tom Fleming off to save him from getting sent off, pushed Craig Palmer into midfield and that worked.

“I have stated all along we wanted to strengthen our squad and we have tried a couple of players which haven’t worked out. But with Chris Jenkinson, Craig Suddaby and Stuart Rice, who we haven’t seen much of yet, I feel we have 16 or 18 players which mean whatever 11 we put out, they are good enough to perform at this level.

“My job now is to manage them, and I accept some players may decide to move elsewhere if they are not involved.

“We have also brought in Lewis Taylor, who is a very, very good player.

“He is a midfielder, but only 17 and he played for Pickering’s first team last season aged 16, and plays for North Yorkshire county under 18s.

“The kids for free offer is a great idea by the club and the chairman and we are delighted the Free Press has got involved with the initiative.

“It is a good opportunity for young kids to come down and have a look and hopefully we can find supporters for the future, and for the rest of the season.

“We have 14 games to play and although I wouldn’t say how many points we need, we go into every game believing we can win.”
