Bridlington Town v Arnold Town
The views of Bridlington Town boss Mitch Cook after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Arnold Town.
“SATURDAY was so disappointing when we just wanted to follow on from Boxing Day, especially with this being our only home league game in January.
“We didn’t play well, yet we created numerous chances in the first half and I expected us to kick on.
“The turning point was when Hogg and Greening went through and one was onside and one was not. That incident summed our afternoon up really.
“Teams know that Bridlington is a place they are going to have to work their socks off to get anything. We had the chance to put this game to bed and we didn’t do it and you could see their celebrations at the end, it was like a cup final.
“We can mention the referee but the referee doesn’t miss chances, hit the bar or defend like we did.
“Any manager will tell you most teams are built on a solid foundation at the back and players like Mark Wilberforce, Wayne Aziz and Craig Palmer, usually our most consistent performers, weren’t at their best.
“We have signed Craig Suddaby to push our defenders and he is a week away from being fit. We knew Stuart Rice was unavailable because of his 21st birthday but he is back now.
“We have also signed Peter Davidson from North Ferriby. Another local club tried to sign him but he agreed to join us. Then, Buxton came in as well and he has decided to have a go in the Evo-Stik League.
“He is a ball-playing attacking midfielder, and we have been looking to replace James Bennett. We knew Wayne Wallace was only here for a short period of time, and he has left just as he was getting back to his best.
“Now, we have to utilise the players who are with us, as well as trying to bring extra ones in, rather than concentrating on those who are not with us any more.
“Signing players is not easy though with Bridlington being out on a limb.
“Saturday was not the end of the world, it felt like it was, but we are still in a good position, although we will have to play much better.
“Retford are setting the standards. Both they and Scarborough Athletic had good results on Saturday and perhaps that was the most disappointing aspect.
“I would have expected any team we put out to win on Saturday, but we now go to Hall Road, and I’ve never had an easy game there so it will be a battle.”
