Local cricket fixtures will start earlier this year, as league officials look to reduce the number of teams failing to raise sides.

The Derwent Valley League is planning to bring in a start time of 1.30pm in 2014, instead of 2.15pm, if it is approved at its AGM on Tuesday, January 21.

The move follows a club and player survey carried out last summer which asked what was wrong with local cricket.

Responses suggested part of the reason a number of teams failed was that games finished too late on Saturday evenings.

The Derwent Valley League committee has decided on 1.30pm starts, which is also proposed by the Beckett League for all their games.

The league will operate with three divisions of 10 teams. Sewerby 3rds remain in Division A and will be joined by Flamborough, who were promoted as Division B runners-up.

Wold Newton 2nds, Bridlington 3rds and Sewerby 4ths will compete in Division B.

Division A: Great Habton, Oriel, Muston, Hospitals/Rugby Club, Sewerby 3rds, Forge Valley 3rds, Whitby 3rds, Brompton 2nds, Lockton, Flamborough

Division B: Kirbymoorside 2nds, Flixton 3rds, Bridlington 3rds, Sherburn 2nds, Nawton Grange 2nds, Wold Newton 2nds, Seamer 3rds, Sewerby 4ths, Filey 2nds, Snainton
